I’m a developer.

I’m also a designer, founder, writer, and maker. All of those words are true at the same time.

What is new is the amount of room around them.

AI lets me move from an idea to working software stupid fast. I can follow more threads myself—code, color, words, interactions—and see where they go. The skills are still the skills. I simply get to put more of them to work, often at the same time. That is where the play begins.

A day with more room

A fairly normal day might include working on this website, talking to someone about a community app, testing a color tool, answering a question about horses, going for a run, cooking dinner, and wondering what the chickens have destroyed.

That is what range looks like on an ordinary day.

The to-do list reads less like a career and more like a drawer somebody shook. I quite like it that way.

By bedtime, several parts of me have had a turn. They all belong to the same day and the same person.

More than one thing is true

I have several good answers to “What do you do?” I am a developer and a designer. I build products. I run Superhuge. Founder, writer, and maker fit too.

Each title is a place I can start, not a place I have to stop. That is the freedom.

When I write a note, the developer does not disappear. When I cook dinner, it is not a career pivot. When I use AI to carry an idea through design and code, several skills can join the same project. I have more range.

That feels obvious once written down. Still nice to say.

03 / Play

Play has become practical

More range means more play. Play is not the opposite of serious work. It is often how I find the interesting version of it.

An idea no longer has to wait for a perfect plan or the perfect set of skills. I can make a rough version, look at it, laugh when it fails, learn something, and continue.

The exciting part is not speed on its own. It is continuity: staying with an idea while it changes form.

The opening of the Daodejing is cautious about names. I take a cheerful little version of that thought: a name can be accurate without being exhaustive. Being a developer tells the truth. It just does not tell me where I have to stop.
