What arises together
The rest came from everything I met along the way.
- identity
- influence
- curiosity
- Daoism
Offline, I’m Tim. Online, I’m Superhuge. Somehow.
That is the joke on the homepage, but it is also more or less true.
Superhuge is not a character I play. It is a name I gave to the curious, making, putting-things-online part of me.
On its own, a name is just a word. Once other people see it, remember it, and say it back, it begins to feel real. Apparently a person can meet his own name halfway.
01 / Name
A name comes alive
Names are funny. I can write Superhuge on a private folder and nothing much happens. Put it on notes, tools, and weird little experiments, and it begins collecting associations.
Not through brand strategy. Just repetition, attention, and memory. Superhuge starts to mean useful things, strange ideas, curiosity, and perhaps slightly more ambition than common sense.
Tim does not disappear into it. Superhuge does not exist without Tim. The interesting part is what happens between the two.
02 / Taste
My taste is a crowd
When I put my name on something, I call it mine. Fair enough. I made it. But the taste behind it has a crowded family tree.
Old websites, music, films, books, conversations, and things made by people with an eye I admire. Also failed attempts, accidental discoveries, and things I probably remember incorrectly.
I do not find that threatening. Original does not have to mean untouched. Mine can be the particular mixture: what I notice, what I keep, what I leave out, and what I put beside what.
The crowd does not make me less myself. It is one reason my work looks like mine.
03 / Curious
I like who I become when curious
That mixture wakes up when something catches my attention. A strange website. An unnecessarily complicated process. A question with an annoying edge. An idea that has not decided what it is yet.
I like who I become when I am curious. I care less about looking competent. I poke, try, break, laugh, and follow along until something appears. I do not need to know where it is going. I just want to see what it does.
Curiosity is not a possession I keep in a drawer. It happens between me and something I cannot quite leave alone.
Early in the Daodejing, long sits beside short and difficult beside easy. Each becomes clearer in company. I do not need to turn that into a spiritual system. It is a simple recognition: some things become visible only in relation.
Maybe Superhuge is the name for that meeting: my taste, my curiosity, and whatever has caught their attention today.
04 / Next
What happens next?
This website began as a place to show work. It is turning into a living notebook, a playground, and a way of seeing what keeps catching my attention.
The more I put here, the more this version of me becomes visible. Even to me.
I make something, send it out, and somebody meets it. Maybe a conversation comes back. Maybe a new idea. Maybe a better question.
What happens when this meets someone else?
Only one way to find out.
